Ordering donuts online used to be a gamble: stale boxes, squashed icing, week-old stock dressed up in nice packaging. It doesn't have to be. Here's how online donut ordering actually works when it's done properly — and what to check before you buy from anyone (including us).
How ordering fresh donuts online works
At Black Box, it runs like this: you order online by 10pm, our bakers make your donuts fresh overnight in our Newcastle, Co. Down bakery, and they ship the next morning for next-day delivery across the UK and Ireland. That means the donuts that arrive at your door were dough less than 48 hours earlier — not sitting in a warehouse, not frozen and thawed.
What to look for when you buy donuts online
- Made to order, not made to stock. Ask (or check the FAQ): were these baked after you ordered, or picked from a shelf? Fresh-baked is the entire point.
- Clear delivery timelines. A proper fresh bakery will tell you exactly when to order for which delivery day. Vague shipping windows usually mean older stock.
- Real toppings, generous portions. Photos should match reality — look for reviews with customer photos, not just studio shots.
- Range beyond the basics. The best online donut shops give you gift boxes, bundles and things you can't get in a supermarket — like our Donnollis, the donut-cannoli hybrid we invented.
What can you order from Black Box?
Our donut gift boxes are the flagship: hand-decorated fresh donuts loaded with Nestlé, Kinder, Biscoff, Cadbury and more. Then there are Donnollis, Little Dohs (mini donuts, dangerously moreish), and bundle boxes that mix everything. Every order is baked fresh overnight and delivered next-day — £5.95 delivery, free over £50.
When should you order?
Order by 10pm for next-day dispatch. For birthdays and occasions, we'd suggest ordering two days ahead so your box lands the day before or morning of — donuts are at their absolute best on the day they arrive.
